{"id":14163,"date":"2024-08-15T14:03:47","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T07:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moenr.gov.bt\/?p=14163"},"modified":"2024-08-15T14:04:57","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T07:34:57","slug":"commencement-of-testing-and-commissioning-of-unit-1-and-2-of-1020-mw-punatsangchhu-ii-hydroelectric-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moenr.gov.bt\/?p=14163","title":{"rendered":"Commencement of Testing and Commissioning of Unit 1 and 2 of 1020 MW Punatsangchhu \u2013 II Hydroelectric Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><a name=\"OLE_LINK29\"><\/a><a name=\"OLE_LINK30\"><\/a><a name=\"OLE_LINK31\"><\/a><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Bjimthangka<\/span><\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">Wangdue<\/span><\/strong><strong> \u2013 August 15, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A major milestone has been achieved in the ongoing collaboration between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India with the Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project. <span lang=\"EN-US\">Thirteen years after signing the Inter-governmental Agreement to implement this Project, the spinning of the turbines for Unit 1 and Unit 2 is set to commence on August 15, 2024, an auspicious day that will mark the commencement of testing and commissioning of 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II, much-anticipated mega hydropower project in Bhutan. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Agreement, signed on April 30, 2010, was aimed at harnessing hydropower potential for the mutual benefit <span lang=\"EN-US\">of the two countries. <\/span>Despite facing various challenges during <span lang=\"EN-US\">the <\/span>execution, including geological, hydrological, and COVID-19 pandemic, the Project has successfully overcome these obstacles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Project has already achieved key <\/span>milestones, <span lang=\"EN-US\">including the filling of reservoir <\/span>on <span lang=\"EN-US\">February 21, 2024, the filling of headrace tunnel on June 27, 2024, the filling of tailrace tunnel on August 2, 2024 and the filling of pressure shaft on August 12, 2024.
