The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR) commemorated World Environment Day with the theme <\/span>\u201cEnding Plastic Pollution\u201d<\/b> coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of Her Majesty Druk Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck on June 4, 2025. The event commenced with a butter lamp offering and Zhabten for Her Majesty\u2019s well-being and good health. The ceremony was graced by the Hon\u2019ble Minister, MoENR,\u00a0 Special Advisor to the National Environment Commission, Secretary of MoENR, senior officials from the Royal Government, and representatives of the development partners and other organizations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 <\/p>\r\n

The Hon\u2019ble Lyonpo highlighted the importance of our pristine environment and its conservation, and called upon the global and local communities to contribute meaningfully in addressing one of the emerging environmental issues – proliferation of plastic waste. Reinforcing the principle of <\/span>\u201cMy Waste, My Responsibility\u201d<\/span><\/i>, His Excellency also called upon every individual to play a critical role in curbing the waste issue in the country. The Day also emphasized environmental and economic complementarity in the nation\u2019s progress.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

As a part of the commemoration, the Department of Environment and Climate Change, MoENR launched the following:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

  1. Bhutan\u2019s First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR 1.0)<\/b>: A reporting requirement under the Enhanced Transparency Framework<\/span> of the Paris Agreement<\/span> ensuring regular updates on the climate actions, progress toward NDC, and support received or provided for climate actions.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

      \r\n
    1. Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) development document: <\/b>A roadmap that will guide the preparation of Bhutan\u2019s NDC 3.0 and enhance strategies, systems, and in-country capacities to achieve its climate objectives and targets.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

      1. Article 6 Information Package<\/b>: An initiative towards leveraging climate finance and enhancing Bhutan\u2019s contributions to global climate action.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

         <\/p>\r\n

        The event highlighted the collaboration between the government, development partners, local communities, and individuals in the nation\u2019s environmental stewardship and collective effort in pursuing a green and climate-resilient future as well as realizing a Zero Waste Society.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
