Today marks a milestone in Bhutan\u2019s climate action journey! The Technical Expert Review Team (TERT) has completed the in-country review of Bhutan\u2019s first Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) and shared their initial findings with the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC), Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR), and key government departments.<\/span><\/p>\n

From 6 – 10 October 2025, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat and TERT conducted this crucial, mandatory in-country review in Thimphu, alongside a dedicated team for Analysis of the REDD+ Technical Annexure, engaging in important bilateral discussions with key climate and economic sectors, underscoring Bhutan\u2019s commitment to transparent climate reporting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The review process has provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the national inventory report, national circumstances, support received and other important aspects of the BTR. The insights from this review will inform future BTRs, aligning with the principles of continuous improvement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bhutan ratified the UNFCCC in 1995 and the Paris Agreement in 2017, fulfilling its obligations with the submission of key reports such as National Communications, Nationally Determined Contributions, Biennial Update Report, and now the first BTR in December 2024. The BTR provides crucial information on Bhutan\u2019s 2022 greenhouse gas emissions, progress on NDC implementation, and support needed and received in climate finance, capacity building, and technology development. It is a vital resource guiding national climate policies. Bhutan is grateful for the support from our national experts and international community in this transition towards the enhanced transparency framework.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bhutan\u2019s leadership in climate transparency not only fulfils international commitments but also exemplifies integrity and dedication to safeguarding our environment for generations to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
