To contribute to sustainable socio-economic development through geo-scientific studies and scientific management of mineral resources in the kingdom.
- Develop mineral resources compatible with the social, environment, cultural heritage and economic policy of the Royal Government of Bhutan;
- Provide input for national development and social welfare to the citizens of Bhutan by opening up avenue for investment and employment; and
- Apply geo-scientific knowledge and techniques in mitigation and risk reduction associated with geohazards, thereby improving the resilience of the community.
- Formulate policy, regulations and strategy, and provide technical advisories
- Conduct geological mapping of mineral resources and conduct geoscientific studies
- Oversee, control, lease and regulate mineral resources, mining and geoscientific activities
- Maintain data and information on mineral resources, mining and geoscientific activities
