Coinciding with the 7th Day of celebrating the Auspicious Birth of HRH The Gyalsem on 16th September 2023, Nature Conservation Division of the Department of Forests and Park Services under the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Royal Government of Bhutan supported Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary to release 4 takins (2 males and 2 females) into the wilderness habitat of Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. The release was graced by Dasho Dzongdag, Trashigang Dzongkhag, local government officials and Chief of @Divisional Forest Office Trashigang. Two adult Takins were collared with GPS collars to keep track of their movement and understand their habitat requirement. Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary historically could have had Takins going by the what we hear from elders of Merak and considering similar landscape the Wildlife Sanctuary has with that of Takin habitats in Western Bhutan.
