His Excellency Lyonpo Loknath Sharma, Ministry of Economic Affairs / Chairman of MHPA congratulates the MHPA team and appreciates their hard work and commendable achievement in civil engineering. The Brunel medal is one of the prestigious recognitions awarded by the UK-based Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The Chairman said that the MHPA team, led by the Managing Director including all the contractors, consultants/designers and workers who tirelessly constructed the Mangdechhu hydroelectric plant, are the rightful owners of the medal. The Chairman handed over the medal to the Joint Managing Director of MHPA and reminded him to inform every worker, current and past, on this feat.
This is the first time for a hydropower project in Bhutan to be recognized at an international level and sets a benchmark for other hydropower projects to emulate.
