Bhutan has made tremendous progress in electrification over the course of 15 years and almost all citizens do have access to electricity now. As a result, we have opportunities to adopt clean and efficient energy sources for cooking and heating.
For instance, the majority of households only use a rice cooker for preparing meals such as rice. However, sources like LPG for cooking are still abundantly used in the country which comes as an imported commodity.
Commodities such as LPG has led to humongous net import amounting to Nu. 1,348.03 Million from 2014 to 2019. Surprisingly, the import of LPG is observed to be increasing at an average rate of 9.81 % annually. Such occurrences are alarming considering the availability of options to switch to a sustainable source of energy.
As such, electric cookstoves come as an efficient substitute to conventional cooking stoves (LPG and Fuelwood based). The benefits of clean cooking technology such as electric cookstoves are many and far reaching. The video which was produced in collaboration Denkars Getaway deliberates on these benefits.
