Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Gelephu Dry Port Development

The Salang Tendrel (ground-breaking) ceremony for the Construction of Gelephu Dry Port was held at 11 am on the 15th of July, 2022 corresponding to the 17th Day of the Water Male Tiger Year of the Bhutanese calendar.

The dry port facility in Gelephu which is located opposite domestic airport is expected to facilitate cross-border trade through improved cargo handling services and bring economic benefits for the central, eastern and southern dzongkhags. The project is being implemented with the financial support from Government of India. The project is expected to be completed by December 2024.

The Salang Tendrel was graced by the Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo Loknath Sharma and presided over by the Venerable Lam Neten of Sarpang Dratshang. Representative from the Indian Embassy, Heads of all agencies under Sarpang Dzongkhag and Gelephu Thromde along with senior representatives of the Government and Armed Forces attended the ceremony.
