Workshop on Cross-Border Paperless Trade Facilitation and Emerging Technologies

The Department of Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs  in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific(UNESCAP) organized a day workshop on Cross- Border Paperless Trade Facilitation  and Emerging Technologies on 25 November 2022 in Thimphu, Bhutan.

The workshop was conducted to raise stakeholders’ awareness on feasible data and mechanism for cross-border electronic exchange of data for trade facilitation, with special emphasis on utilizing emerging technologies such as distributed ledger technology/block chain, internet of things, artificial intelligence and data analytics.

The workshop was attended by Government officials from relevant agencies such as Department of Revenue Customs,  Royal Monetary Authority, Department of information Technology & Telecom, Ministry of Economic Affairs  and private stakeholders such as Bhutan Chamber of Customs and Industries, Bhutan Exporters Association and Clearing  & Forwarding Agencies.

The workshop was a great platform for the national participants to interact virtually with resources speakers and experts from UNESCAP, World Customs Organization, World Economic Forum, UN/CEFACT and IBM Research Centre India.

The workshop is organized under the project “enhancing capacity for sustainable cross-border trade digitization through application of emerging technologies”, supported by Enhanced Integrated Framework(EIF).
