Fifth International Solar Alliance Regional Committee Meeting for Asia and Pacific Region

The Hon’ble Lyonpo for the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR) was invited to participate in the fifth International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee Meeting for the Asia and Pacific region held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from 24th to 26th July 2023. The meeting brought together representatives from approximately 25 countries in the region to review and discuss the progress of various solar energy programs and initiatives under the ISA.

 

During the event, the Hon’ble Lyonpo had a meeting with the Director General of ISA and the team, focusing on strengthening the collaboration between Bhutan and the ISA. Bhutan, having obtained full membership to ISA in October 2022, and was identified as one of the priority countries to establish the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) by the Alliance. This center will serve as a focal point for solar energy technology, knowledge, and expertise, providing support for capacity building in Bhutan. The discussions with the ISA team yielded positive outcomes on the programs, as ISA expressed its commitment to extend the necessary support for Bhutan’s solar technology development endeavors. In addition, during a side event on Green Grids Initiative (GGI) and One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWG), Hon’ble Lyonpo delivered a keynote address reaffirming Bhutan’s dedication to supporting these initiatives. Moreover, Bhutan is actively engaged in the BIMSTEC grid interconnection initiative, promoting trans-national grid connectivity to facilitate regional energy trade and enhance energy security in the region.
