Press release for the inauguration of Gamri-1 & Bamukparongchu Integrated Hydropower Project

Coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Royal Highness Gyalsay Jigme Namgyal Wangchuck on 5th February 2025, the Hon’ble Lyonpo, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, inaugurated the 54MW Gamri-1 and Bamukparongchu Integrated Hydropower Project at Sakteng Gewog under Trashigang Dzongkhag. The project is part of the second phase of Small Hydropower Project development aimed at enhancing the national energy security, while also augmenting the social, economic and livelihood of the people through the projects. The contract was awarded to Vajra Builders Private Limited and Chimi RD Construction Private Limited.

There are three small hydropower projects in the second phase of the Small Hydropower Project Development. Those are 90 MW Jomori hydropower project, 54 MW Gamri-1 & Bamukparongchu Integrated Hydropower Project and 26 MW Druk Bindu 1&2 project. The three projects (54 MW Burgangchhu, 32 MW Yungichu and 18 MW Sochu project) initiated in the first phase is expected to be commissioned in 2025, generating 104 MW of power for the country.
