A delegation from the Department of Energy, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources attended the Seventh Meeting of International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee Meeting for the Asia and the Pacific, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from July 15–17, 2025.
The meeting convened member countries to review progress on ISA initiatives and explore collaborative opportunities to accelerate solar energy deployment in the Asia and the Pacific region. Bhutan reaffirmed its commitment to clean energy transition and regional cooperation, aligned with the country’s Renewable Energy Development Roadmap 2024.
The Director General of the Department of Energy participated in several panel discussions covering key topics such as cross-border energy integration, green hydrogen, energy storage systems, and e-mobility. He also shared Bhutan’s experience and reflections on the establishment of STAR-C (Solar Technology Application Resource Centre) at the College of Science and Technology, highlighting its role in capacity building, testing and technology dissemination in the region.
The Department extends its appreciation to the Government of Sri Lanka and ISA for hosting the event and fostering dialogue among member nations.
This meeting was preceded by the Workshop on the South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Initiatives on Sector Strategy, Financing, and Capacity from July 14–15, 2025, also held in Colombo, Sri Lanka where a delegation from the Ministry and DGPC attended. The workshop brought together distinguished delegates from SASEC member countries and valued partners from the ADB. The discussions focused on the draft SASEC Energy Sector Strategy 2035, a proposed Memorandum of Intent for capacity building, and the SASEC Green Finance Facility, all of which align closely with Bhutan’s national priorities and its vision for regional energy cooperation.
