On August 17, 2019, the Nation witnessed a new milestone in the five decades of Indo-Bhutan Hydropower Cooperation by crossing 2000MW capacity enhancement with the addition of 720MW Mangdechhu Hydropower Plant. This has cemented the enduring Bhutan-India friendship.
Hydropower development is the centerpiece of excellent bilateral cooperation between Bhutan and India.
His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India and His Excellency Lyonchen Dr. Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan inaugurated the Mangdechhu Hydropower Plant in the Kunerey of the Semtokha Dzong.
We are highly indebted to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his Government for dedicating the Mangdechhu Hydropower Plant to the people of Bhutan.
We look forward to continued cooperation with the Government of India for future hydropower development for mutual benefits of the two friendly Nations.
