His Excellency Tengye Lyonpo, Chairperson of the ongoing Hydroelectric Projects, attended the 14th Authority Meeting of the Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority on 24th September 2019 followed by the 22nd and 14th Authority Meetings of the Punatsangchhu-I and Punatsangchhu-II Project Authorities respectively, on 25th September 2019. The meetings were held in New Delhi, India.
During the visit, Tengye Lyonpo also called on His Excellency Shri R.K Singh, Minister for Power, Minister of State (IC) for Power & Renewable Energy, and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, GoI. During the meeting, the Hon’ble Minister, MoP, GoI assured his full commitment in ensuring that the Projects are implemented in a timely and cost effective manner.
The Authority meetings took stock of the progress of various hydropower projects and underscored the importance of achieving the milestones without further cost and time overruns. Amongst others, the MHPA meeting decided to hold one more meeting towards the end of the year in deciding the readiness of project for handing over of the same to the Royal Government subject to completion of all critical balance activities including closure of the contracts and attending the technical glitches of the generating units. PHPA I meeting decided to expedite the assessment of the entire right bank instability issues in coming out with a holistic remedial measures for a long term structural integrity of the dam structures by the end of 2019. PHPA II meeting decided to fast track implementation of various technical measures to achieve the commissioning of 1st unit of the project by October 2021.
Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo will return to Thimphu on 26th September 2019.
