Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo personally went around meeting retailers, wholesalers and people in Thimphu to understand the situation on the ground and inform people not to worry about shortages on March 21, 2020. During the visit, Lyonpo assured people not to worry about disruptions in supply chains as the Royal Government has undertaken all measures to maintain continuity of supply of essential goods. Lyonpo informed people and retailers that the government has planned supplies for 3-6 months based on how the COVID-19 situation evolves.
Lyonpo also urged people not buy more than what is required on a regular basis and that stocking of large quantities of goods does not help in ensuring everyone gets what they require. And bulk buying also results in waste and creates shortages.
While meeting the major wholesalers, Lyonpo discussed with them, the need to maintain continuity of supplies to all shops and especially the smaller retailers. The major wholesalers were also briefed about the government’s plans to support them in order to maintain continuity of supplies in the country. Prior to today’s meeting, Hon’ble Tengye Lyonpo had met the distributors in the ministry to discuss supply contingency plans.
