Status of Hydropower Plants as of 8:00 PM

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MoENR) would like to update the general public on the operation of hydropower plants and the grid status due to the incessant rainfall and flash floods experienced across the country on 4-5 October 2025:

The status of hydropower plants is summarized as follows:
1. Tala Hydropower Project: Dam overtopping continues, though inflows have now reduced from 1,290 cumecs to about 600 cumecs at Chhukha dam location. The plant is under shut down due to intake choking.
2. Mangdechhu Hydropower Project: Under operation with careful monitoring.
3. Nikachhu Hydropower Project: Under operation with careful monitoring
4. Basochhu Hydropower Project: Under operation with careful monitoring.
5. Suchhu Hydropower Project: Under shutdown due to failure of the transmission line.
6. Dagachhu Hydropower Project: Under shutdown as a precautionary measure.
7. Kurichhu Hydropower Project: Under operation with careful monitoring.
8. Punatsangchhu-II Hydropower Project: Under shutdown due to high sedimentation; silt flushing is underway.
9. Chhukha Hydropower Project: Under shutdown due to intake choking.

Power supply in several areas has been affected. Bhutan Power Corporation Limited is actively working to restore and stabilize supply.

The Ministry is closely coordinating with the Druk Green Power Corporation Limited, Bhutan Power Corporation Limited, Hydropower plants, NCHM and Bhutan Power System Operator to monitor and manage the evolving situation.
